Let’s start with disclosure: Yuxinan is a multi-site networking product from Siwenlide, and we are a stakeholder in this article. Precisely because we are a stakeholder, we have all the more reason to be honest on this question: “Is multi-site networking stable?” has no guaranteed answer — stability is not decided by one concept; it is built from three layers stacked together. In one sentence: Break it into these three layers — “tunnel layer, fallback layer, broadband foundation” — and you don’t need to understand the technology to judge for yourself whether a networking solution is reliable.
I. Why people always worry that “the networking is unstable”
This worry doesn’t come out of nowhere — it comes from three real memories:
- The shadow of old VPN disconnections: with early dial-up VPNs, if the connection dropped, someone had to dial in again; change the IP or restart the router and the configuration stopped working — maintenance depended entirely on “someone in the shop who knows this stuff”;
- Peak-hour lag on free remote tools: some free remote-control / NAT-traversal tools work fine during the day but lag into a slideshow at night, so people conclude that “this kind of thing never works at night”;
- Blaming the networking for broadband problems: Wi-Fi dead zones in the shop, an aging router, broadband congestion at peak evening hours — the lag and dropouts they cause actually have nothing to do with the networking solution.
The worry is justified, but let’s break it down: which layer exactly are you worried about?
II. Stability comes from three stacked layers — look at them one by one
| Layer | What it handles | Can it go down? |
|---|---|---|
| ① Tunnel layer (direct P2P) | The two sites send data directly point to point, without going through any third party | The principle is the same as a WeChat video call: jitter or brief interruptions in between are reconnected automatically within seconds, with no human intervention |
| ② Fallback layer (cloud relay) | When a direct connection cannot be established in certain network environments, traffic automatically switches to a cloud relay | The service does not go down; only the relay bandwidth depends on your plan (2 Mbps on the free version, enough for small-packet workloads such as checkout and monitoring previews; for multiple main-stream feeds or large file transfers, we recommend upgrading) |
| ③ Broadband foundation (local access) | The shop’s and headquarters’ own broadband, routers, and Wi-Fi | If this layer goes down, no solution can save you — which is why the checkout counter should keep a 4G/5G backup link, regardless of whether you use multi-site networking |
New-generation networking (the path Yuxinan takes) makes the first two layers automatic: no public IP required, no port forwarding, automatic reconnection after a drop, and an automatic switch to relay when a direct connection can’t be made. The principles are covered in Does multi-site networking need a public IP? — this article only addresses “is it stable”.
III. Four questions are enough to judge whether a networking solution is stable
- Is there a relay fallback? A solution that talks only about P2P and never mentions fallback will genuinely go down in a network environment where a direct connection can’t be made; with automatic relay, the worst case is “slower”, not “disconnected”;
- Does reconnection need a human? Ask one question: “After the router restarts or the IP changes, does someone have to reconfigure it?” If the answer is yes, it will teach you a lesson at your busiest hour sooner or later;
- How long has it run in real time? Check whether the product has been running in real stores year after year, not just in demo videos;
- Does it dare to offer a free version to try first? Whether it’s stable — running it in your own store for a week is more accurate than any marketing. Anyone willing to give you a permanently free version to try for nothing is at least confident in their own stability.
IV. These “instabilities” are actually not the networking’s fault
Of the real support tickets we’ve handled, more than half turned out not to be networking problems:
- Wi-Fi coverage: the checkout counter sits in a dead zone of the router — wired is rock solid while wireless speeds fluctuate; try a network cable first;
- An aging router: a cheap no-name router has a low device capacity and crashes when it gets hot — a reboot fixes it, then it happens again a few days later;
- The devices themselves dropping offline: cameras and NVRs with old firmware drop their streams on their own — rebooting the device fixes it, and it has nothing to do with the network;
- Broadband peak hours: residential broadband gets congested in the evening — at that hour, even watching videos within the same city lags.
A simple way to localize the problem: when it lags, ping your shop router’s address from a computer in the shop. If even this step is unstable, the problem is inside the shop; if this step is stable but accessing headquarters is not, only then is it time to investigate the networking.
V. Our advice: don’t trust promises — run a week of real business
Stability is something a test environment can’t measure and a marketing page can’t show — only your own business can prove it. The approach is simple: the Yuxinan free trial version is ?0 forever, activated upon registration, and includes 2 endpoint slots (hardware included) — exactly enough for “headquarters + one branch store”. Once it’s set up, put real business on it: have the branch’s checkout access the headquarters server, and headquarters pull up the branch’s monitoring preview, and run it through a week of peak meal hours. If it’s stable, then talk about expanding; if it isn’t, you haven’t spent a cent. For how to judge checkout connectivity, see the checkout article; for unified monitoring, see the monitoring article; for the full cost picture after expanding, see the cost breakdown of chain-store networking; and for the free version’s capability boundaries, see what the free version can do and where it falls short.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will it get slower in the evening or on weekends?
A: With direct P2P connections, traffic travels between the two sites, so the speed depends on the broadband on both ends — the networking solution doesn’t throttle anything in between. If your shop’s broadband is shared residential bandwidth that is already slow in the evening, then any solution will be slow — that’s a matter of the broadband foundation.
Q: One store uses China Unicom and another uses China Telecom — does the cross-carrier situation matter much?
A: Hole punching across carriers has a lower success rate, so traffic is more likely to go through the relay. Over the relay, small-packet workloads like checkout and monitoring previews are fine (the free version’s 2 Mbps relay is enough); for long, high-volume backhaul, we recommend upgrading or choosing a usage pattern where P2P is not rate-limited.
Q: Does the free version deliberately throttle you until it’s unusable?
A: The free version’s boundaries are stated plainly: direct P2P is not rate-limited, and cloud relay forwarding is 2 Mbps. That’s enough for checkout, back-office access, and monitoring previews; for genuinely high-volume scenarios, that’s the job of the paid tiers. There’s an item-by-item list in what the free version can do and where it falls short.
Q: What if the shop’s broadband really goes down?
A: Broadband down means the local network is down, and any remote access will fail — this is not something networking can solve. The right move is to keep a 4G/5G backup link at the checkout counter (a router with a SIM card, or a phone hotspot). It costs a few dozen yuan a month, and when the network drops during peak hours, it will have paid for a year of its cost in one go.
Pricing and bandwidth for Yuxinan’s free and paid versions are subject to the publicly published pages on its official website as of October 2026; broadband quality is subject to the actual service provided by your local carrier.
